I am somewhere but not here...

How clearly can we agree to the fact that yes, I have thought a lot on a topic not worth thinking about? To put this simply we can say yes I have overthought a lot. And it happens more often than I get late for school/college/office every day.

I wanted to write on a topic like this but end up overthinking about what to write on overthinking. Sounds funny, right? Our generation is falling into the pit hole of overthinking and instead of reducing it, this generation feels proud of doing the same. For instance, youngsters like to proudly add #overthinker to their profile bio and consider it as an achievement. I feel how ill the person is, might be having a hard time consuming things easily. I feel so very concerned about an overthinker. 
This is not what we should feel proud of. Being an overthinker is both a thing of concern and a thing of being unconcerned. As in if you overthink an important aspect of life like career, job/business and many more is a sign of a healthy mindset but overthinking on topics like fame, results, love life etc is showing you an unhealthy mindset.

I am using this particular word 'overthinking' continuously, let me make it easy for you to understand. I know you already know its meaning but everyone carries their own personalized dictionary, therefore I think let us first land on the same page then we can move forward on our discussion. 
Overthinking simply means: 

Putting too much time into thinking about or analyzing (something) in a way that is more harmful than helpful.

Being an artist I find it more satisfying to explain things using art as this is one of my fields of interest. And more than enough time I feel overwhelmed with what I create. Okay, enough of self-praising again but what can I do sometimes I am sooooo self-obsessed with my work.

I hope now we are clear with the meaning hence let's move forward with our discussion. Overthinking is a web. Once you start thinking about a topic, you start connecting it with the related topics and then you start thinking about the related topics and this carries on. Therefore overthinking is a web, thinking then relating then thinking and then again relating and so on

We all clearly know that our brain is the most important part of our body. We are alive because our brains know what to do and how to do it and so many more such things. To make it easy for all of us to understand let me relate our brains to a piece of machinery. As I am a commerce student so these land, building, and machinery are the things we have learned from stating. Being a commerce student it is my responsibility to be loyal to my assets and relate them everywhere. Haha... okay, sorry let me get back to the point. As I said our brain = machinery. If we continuously use a piece of machinery there might be a chance of its wear & tear faster. Furthermore, if this machinery is only responsible for the working of the whole process then it is possible that the uneven outcome can be seen in the other part of the project. In the same way, if we continuously use our brain to overthink certain useless topics then it will affect our body's sleep cycles, decision-making capacity, problem-solving capacity, remembering power and many more. 

At present moment we are well aware of the problem that is overthinking and its effect on our bodies and day-to-day decision-making. Let us see how we can identify when we start overthinking and how we can minimize it. I am not saying to completely finish this chitchat in our mind (overthinking), I don't think it is that easy. Although what we can do for now is we gonna identify it, minimize it and then end it. 

Seems so simple right? Actually, it is simple. You just again overthink on ending up overthinking. haha...

How to identify that we are overthinking?

What I do is, observe whether I am thinking about a particular topic more often. In continuation to it, am I relating the same to my ongoing life things? 
And if the answer to these questions is yes, I know I have started overthinking. 
Doing this will be difficult in the starting. The primary stage is of identifying yourself as overthinking, the sooner you will start practising it you will find it easier to self-identify that you are overthinking than somebody else reminding you that you should stop now, you are overthinking. By the way don't you think how easy it is when somebody else finds our problems and points them out to our faces? I mean wow. Let me leave this for you to answer in the comment below. I will write another blog on the same topic.
Now we know we are overthinking let's find a way to end this.

How to end overthinking?

What I personally do is I write down all the questions I am currently facing related to the topic I am overthinking about and then when one by one I start answering them, it seems so easy and half of the time most of the questing I might have to overthink of seems useless with time.
Simple. isn't it?

I know most of you are like everything seems simple when the process is written but it is as difficult as matching both sides of the balance sheet. (Ah! again commerce thing. hehe...)
I assume you can currently relate this to the recipe book procedure but let me tell you very personally, the more you will think of something the bigger you are creating problems for yourself and look how you are wasting so much important time thinking of something very minimal.
I believe now that you have understood the depth of overthinking its consequences on life etc. I hope my blog has given you an insight into the same and wish you all the luck to end this mind-chit-chattering.

  2. Wow its amazing, Overthinking can be beneficial only when it is used in a balanced and moderate way. When it becomes excessive and prolonged it can lead to negative effects on mental and emotional well-being.
